Yesterday, both Efficient Frontier and SearchIgnite issued reports based on search advertising industry data from the third quarter of 2009. Both reports indicate paid search spend was up during that time period, compared to Q2.
A notable facet of both reports is the emphasis on the contribution the retail sector made to the increase in search spend this past quarter. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, it will be interesting to see how significantly overall search spend is affected by this vertical in Q4.

This latest industry data comes on the heels of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) release of the IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report for the first half of 2009. It's fair to say that we're seeing a lot of cautious optimism about the industry; let's hope this is one trend that continues.
